June Make-up Bag

For this make-up bag I decided the focus was going to be a soft sweet summer look with soft pinks, purples with some variety with gold toned accents. So far I am enjoying this experience  with my first make-up bag where I am force to think about combinations of items  and allows for some experimentation but not to the point where it is overwhelming. The make-up bag allows me to figure out easy looks for everyday while still having the freedom to jazz up my look for a  night out or whenever I have time to play with make-up.

"Is Everyone Hanging Out Wthout Me? " A Reflection

from: http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1320400497l/10335308.jpg

This was a book that I did not think would have a significant impact but was good for a couple of laughs and a fair amount of amusement. Little did I know that it was much more then that but an in-depth and personal-able look into growing up and recognizing the misconceptions, stereotypes and pit falls and normals aspects of life that no one really shows on our television screens. One aspect that really took me back was when Mindy Kaling was discussion her teen years growing up in 90s and the lack of an teen characters that were like her . Just the mention of that made me think about how 10 years later when I was starting my teens years little had changed. the 90s
Growing up as a kid I remember watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Clueless, Sabina the Teenage Witch , Breaker High and Saved By the Bell among other shows. Theses shows gave the greatest delusion of high school where being pretty, stylist, having a boyfriend , driving and being invited to all the "cool" events were of the highest importance. Luckily I discovered before entering high school that this was probably not going to happen and that I did not want my life to be like those one-dimensional characters with the same theme going on and on.
tv

At the time when I was entering my pre-teen and teen years shows like Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, 90210, The OC,  One Tree Hill and Degrassi: The Next Generation were on the screen and were major television successes. It seemed at the time, that the teen genre was exploding with tons of television shows and  movies yet many of the characters fell short to being recognizable to any aspect of how I was and in many ways still am today. The closest I got to a relateable character at the time was Rory Gilmore from Gilmore Girls who had a quiet personae that she display to the world,  parents who were more bad ass then her and a quirky mother. And that were the similarities end because I would never have that mother-daughter relationship because that just was not me, I would not be overly active in after school or community events because I enjoy hanging out at my best friends house after school so much more and I would not have  Dean Forester as my boyfriend because no body look like him in high school.
great tv
Ironically it was only towards the end of my teen years that I found characters that had some significant qualities to my person yet both shows were short lived and were created way before the burst of teen shows. It was shows like My So-Called Life with the character Angela Chase where the reality of being a teen is that nothing really happens and most the time the most the exciting aspect in your life happen in your head. Also the fact that she fell for Jared Leto character who did not really notice  her as anything yet he had fantastic hair would have been something I typically would have done back then.
Another gem was Freaks and Geeks with the character Lindsay Weir who wanted to reinvent herself from being nerdy to cool  with the burnouts because she wanted to not go through high school as a process but live it ; yet later she realizes it not all what she thought it would be. Lindsay was the closest to me in retrospective because I had odd sentiments to masculine clothing, I did not fuss about getting dolled up or even brushing my hair most days, she was too good to be bad and always felt guilty and I was a sucker for  guys with great hair but a lousy personality . Luckily like Lindsey, I realized I did not want the Daniel Desario(James Franco) of the world but Nick Andoplis (Jason Segel).
The Awesome
These characters are great but they do not  sum up all  of me . Something was still missing where was the quirkiness, the wit , the sarcasm, and  the sheer mountain of laughter ...they just seem so serious which when you really get to know me you will quickly realize I am a major goof-ball. Where are the Tiny Feys, Kristen Wiigs, Maya Rudolphs , Sandra Bullocks and Jennifer Lawrences in youth television.
The problem with television is it can never truly represent one  type of person completely. And generally when we try to match characters to our personality it seems to be very restricted by gender. I think as an experiment in the future when examining character on the big screen I am going to avoid looking at just individuals around my age and gender.

The Reading Nest: Book of the Moment

At the moment I am  reading Help For the Haunted by John Searles which has been very enjoyable thus far. At the present time it is rates 3.65 stars  out of 5 on goodreads.com and generally characterized as modern gothic novel with mystery, paranormal themes and smooth transitions between past and  present events. The book revolves around a teenage girl named Sylvie Mason who tragically loses her parents one February night. That night  she is awaken from a gunshot from within an old church building where her parents were lured to from a phone call earlier that evening from their eldest daughter Rose.  From that point on Slyvie is on the path to discovery to find out what happen to her parents and what secrets laid hidden from her for so long.
One thing I find very interesting is how the author draws parallels between the parents in the novel to the real life of Ed and Lorraine Warren who handle paranormal cases such as the Amityville Horror , Smurl Family case, and the haunting in Connecticut.

The Makeup Bag-May

In collaboration to my Project Plan experiment I plan on making a conscious effort to change up my makeup usage to things that may have not been loved for sometime now and new things that I absolutely adore and things that are apart of my Project Pan. I try to mix high end with low end makeup, things that can be used in  multiple ways and versatility from a average day look to a going out night or special occasion. The plan is to make it a monthly switch up. Let me know what you think about this idea and feel free to give any tips or any comment !!

Summer Project Plan - Reduce and Save

Consumerism seems to be an overwhelming aspect in the past year or so  for me which leaves me with more things then I need and a exasperating cluttered environment.  This consumerism is partly due to the desire to have  things ,  boredom and the genius marketing of beauty products from You Tube. I still enjoy watching beauty videos on YouTube yet it seems  to me like less and less people are making generic how-to video and more video are being made to  review or haul the new must haves. Reviews are great and are definitely a useful tool when trying to make the right choice but the issue I have with reviews are  that a large majority of reviews are bought or bias because the Youtuber wants to believe the product is great yet within a couple of months its off their radar or they suddenly realized they did not actually like it. For me the solution is to avoid reviews and haul videos all together and when Youtubers show looks using palettes I do not have I look up dupes that I might have in my collection. At this point I want to make an effort using things I own which does not mean I do not have things I want to purchase in the future but I want to make room for the new and allow myself time to think about if I really want the product.
To make room for new things and use up products before they get expired I plan on doing a Project Pan experiment. Project Pan refers to someone selecting products to use up in a certain time period and not purchasing new products in that time period until they use a product up.For this experiment I am also going to put a monetary value in association to when I finish a product that can be used to buy new products. This Project Pan does not put a ban  on buying  necessities like shampoo or deodorant. So the breakdown for this project pan:

The Beauty of Audio Books

Recently I have discover the joys of audio books which has come as a great surprise. I never truly thought I would enjoy this format but since starting University my desire to sit down and read for a couple hours has deteriorated. This is not to say I do not enjoy reading books but completing a book seems more tedious at times. I also feel audio books are more compatible , accessible and vast in collection then in previous years.
The beauty of audio books for me personally is that they can easily be uploaded on various devices like iphone/samsung galaxy, tablets, ereaders or your pc computer. Therefore your audio book can  be with you on the go without taking tons of space in your bag.Another perk of audiobooks is that I can take in a chapter while in the car, taking public transit, walking the dog or lying in bed with no strain on the eyes.Audio books can easily be found  online from sites like audible.com, amazon.com, or itunes for a fee or found free at your library (branch or online catalogue) or  school library.
Some minor disadvantages of audio books are that the readers' voice is not pleasant to listen to, finding certain audio books may be difficult or costly and that by using audio books you are also using battery power off your devices. Some books I have enjoy as audio files are shown below.

5 Ways to Get Your Day Stated

Lately it seems such a struggle to get myself to do anything some days other then cuddling up in my blanket and watching Doctor Who for hours on end. I realized some easy steps that help me avoid laziness and a day sadly wasted.

(1) Make your bed.
This is important for two reasons : first it eliminates the desire to go back to bed and secondly it gives you a sense of a clean slate. Fresh new beginnings ahead.

(2) Pack your lunch or bag in advance.
This allows you to mentally prepare you for your day and breaks your days events or goals into smaller pieces that seem more manageable.

(3) Stretch
When your body feels ready for the day so too will your mental aspect be aligned plus it allows me a couple minutes to focus on me and my well being then everything else that goes on in my life.

(4) Eat a good breakfast.
Food is fuel and we all run on something.

(5) Avoid the Computer.
Just avoid it or you will get trapped into the void where you said you were only checking the internet but several hours later your still on it switching between you tube and buzzfeed. And when you go on the internet make sure you have some buffer or reason why you need to get off the computer at some point.
